Florida abruptly loses another factory as layoffs spike

After a string of painful factory closures that rattled the state, another company is now cutting back.

Mizkan America, known for its bottled vinegars, shut down its Lake Alfred bottling plant yesterday.

Not only is production moving elsewhere—an embarrassment for a state that prides itself on being employer-friendly—but the closure also wiped out 57 jobs.

It’s another blow for Florida. With the economy already wobbling from trade war impacts, there’s little sign of improvement ahead.

In fact, with the Fed cutting rates, unemployment climbing, and key trade partners boycotting U.S. goods, things may get even worse.
