Former Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Pleads Guilty to Molesting 2 Inmates

A 55-year-old North County man was arrested after authorities said he mailed a narcotic-laced letter to the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office (SDSO) identified the suspect as Jay Tony Naotala, who now faces several charges, including bringing a controlled substance into a jail. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility, officials confirmed Friday.

Letter intercepted in June

On June 17, staff at the Sheriff’s Mail Processing Center intercepted the drug-laced letter, which had been sent through the U.S. Mail to an incarcerated person at Las Colinas.

Authorities arrested Naotala on Friday at the North County Superior Court, where he had been attending an unrelated hearing.

Possible penalty

According to SDSO, sending controlled substances into a correctional facility is a felony that carries a penalty of up to six years in custody.
