Texas woman accused of going 118 mph in Mustang, killing motorcyclist after looking at phone

A 20-year-old Texas woman is facing a  manslaughter charge after police say she struck and killed a motorcyclist while speeding in a Ford Mustang at 118 mph.

Marissa Arlene Dominguez allegedly rear-ended 48-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez on Aug. 31 as he rode his 2024 Kawasaki Ninja along Interstate 10 in El Paso, according to police. Rodriguez was thrown several hundred feet and died at the scene despite wearing a helmet.

Investigators said Dominguez had just left a friend’s 21st birthday party and admitted to drinking underage, though her blood alcohol content measured below the legal limit at 0.047.

Initially, Dominguez told officers Rodriguez had merged into her lane, but later admitted she was distracted by her phone while trying to pick a song. Data from her car showed she never hit the brakes until after impact.

Dominguez was arrested on Sept. 11 and booked into the El Paso County Detention Center before posting a $100,000 bond. Her next court date has not yet been set.
