UM Neurologist Fired After Instagram Post About Charlie Kirk’s Killing

The University of Miami has fired a neurologist after she shared an Instagram post referencing the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

Dr. Michelle Bravo, whose specialty was headache medicine, reposted a message from X that linked Kirk’s Sept. 10 killing to his past comments on violence in the Middle East, according to The Miami Hurricane, the school’s student newspaper. The post concluded with a Malcolm X quote about “chickens coming home to roost.”

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot while hosting an event at Utah Valley University. Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah, who faces a murder charge in connection with the shooting.

Bravo’s Instagram account was deactivated by Sunday, and her profile on UM’s health system website was removed.

In a statement Saturday, the University of Miami condemned Bravo’s remarks and confirmed her dismissal.

“Freedom of speech is a fundamental right,” the university said. “At the same time, expressions that condone or endorse violence or are incompatible with our policies and values are not acceptable.”
