A 55-year-old Florida man has been arrested after allegedly using a fake identity to apply for nursing jobs despite having no valid license in the state, authorities said.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Joseph Kinney, of Lake Mary, showed up for a job interview Monday and was taken into custody outside AdventHealth. Detectives, posing as hiring staff, set up the meeting after a manager became suspicious of his application.
Kinney, whose Florida nursing license was revoked in 2022, has been charged with two counts of practicing health care without a license. Deputies say he has used fraudulent IDs to apply for 10 to 15 jobs, securing at least two positions in Orange and Seminole counties, where he worked briefly.
Authorities said Kinney previously held licenses in Alabama, California, and Florida, but faced disciplinary actions including drug diversion, driving under the influence, providing false information, and unprofessional conduct.
Florida law prohibits anyone from even attempting to practice health care without a license.
Kinney’s attorney has not yet commented on the charges.
