Bay Area chef detained for robbing 3 banks in one day: PD

A Bay Area man was detained for robbing three San Francisco banks in the same afternoon on Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

The suspect, 62-year-old Valentino Luchin of San Francisco, was the executive chef at two unsuccessful Bay Area restaurants, Rose Pistola in North Beach and Ottavio in Walnut Creek, which he also owned, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

On Wednesday, Luchin allegedly entered a bank on Grant Avenue’s 1100 block and handed a note to a bank staffer requesting money.

“Fearing for their safety, the employee complied and provided the suspect with a bag of U.S. currency,” SFPD said. “The suspect then fled from the area with the money.”

Luchin then robbed two other banks in San Francisco’s Central District using the same method, according to authorities. Officers recognized Luchin as the culprit and arrested him the same day.

Luchin was brought into San Francisco County Jail on various robbery counts.
