Three people were apprehended Friday afternoon in Chinatown, near downtown Chicago, after leading police on a high-speed chase from northwest Indiana.
Hobart police said just after 2 p.m., officers sent a warning about a car suspected of stealing various things from a shopping location, including computers and clothing.
A Lake County Sheriff’s officer later saw a car matching the description in unincorporated Gary and began a pursuit.
Officers pursued the vehicle via Cline Avenue, the Indiana Toll Road, the Chicago Skyway, and the Dan Ryan Expressway, aided by a Lake County Sheriff’s helicopter.
During the chase, the fleeing vehicle collided with a Lake County Sheriff’s patrol cruiser.
Officers were able to stop the vehicle in Chinatown using a precision immobilization technique known as a PIT maneuver, and the individuals inside fled.
Police used a K-9 unit to apprehend two males and a female. According to police, all three had active warrants out of Illinois and will be detained in custody in Chicago while they await extradition to Indiana to face theft charges.
