The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania reported that Renato Jardines-Santiago, 37, of Mexico, was indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of illegal re-entry.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, the indictment states that on or around August 25, 2025, Jardines-Santiago was discovered in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, after previously being taken from the country. The indictment further claims that Jardines-Santiago was taken from the United States via San Ysidro, California, then reentered without first getting legal authority. He was previously tried in 2019 for illegally reentering the United States after having been removed.
The maximum penalty for this offense under federal law is ten years in prison, followed by supervised release and a fine.
Meanwhile, another guy identified in Franklin County as being in the country unlawfully has been jailed after a judge found him guilty of returning to the nation without permission.
Jose Miguel Molina-Echavarria, a 40-year-old Mexican citizen, was sentenced this week to time served (almost 4 months in prison) by United States District Judge Joseph F. Saporito, Jr., for illegally reentering the nation after previously being removed.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Molina-Echavarria was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 18, 2025, after being detained for DUI and associated crimes in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Molina-Echavarria had previously been deported from the United States on a court order in 2024. Molina-Echavarria pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry before being sentenced.
Molina-Echavarria is still facing outstanding state charges in Franklin County, and an ICE detainer has been issued against him for deportation proceedings.
