Two people are facing charges after Pennsylvania State Police found children and animals living in unsafe conditions inside a residence.
According to court records, Children and Youth Services dispatched troopers to the residence on July 15. Inside, authorities claim they discovered a 9-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl. The house allegedly had a strong odor, ruined food in the refrigerator (including liquid and moldy lunch meat), holes in the walls and flooring, and garbage and dog feces in the children’s bedroom. Authorities also discovered box spring mattresses used as beds and a deceased turtle in a dog food bowl.
Two dogs were also located in the house. One was said to be suffering from anemia, hunger, and emaciation, and the other had a flea infestation, whipworms, and open skin lesions.
Venessa-Marie Bartolomeo and Tyrone Gooch were charged with:
- Two counts of endangering the welfare of children
- Two counts of aggravated cruelty
- Neglecting animals by not providing water
- Two counts of neglecting animals without shelter
- Two counts of neglecting animals from veterinary care
The investigation is underway.
