2 Milwaukee Teens Shot At In Road Rage Incident While Driving To School

The intersection of 27th and St. Paul in Milwaukee has a reputation for danger; two Marquette University students were killed there last Friday.

Tuesday morning, two teenagers were shot while driving to school in what they call a “road rage” incident. In a CBS 58 exclusive, Montse Ricossa spoke with the teens and their mother, who believe irresponsible driving, particularly in that area, must stop.

On September 9, siblings Amaya and Anthony were late for school as they drove northbound on the 27th St. bridge in Milwaukee. To make the light, Anthony claims he cut off a motorist while changing lanes. In response, the driver began shooting at him and his younger sister. “I simply assumed it was a normal morning, like I’m going to school and everything will be fine.”I didn’t expect a random person to start shooting at my car,” Amaya explained.

Anthony stated that after being cut off, the driver pulled up to the side of their car, brandishing a gun out the window and shooting at the hood and windshield.

To evade the shooter, Anthony swerved into the curb, causing the front bumper to break off. Several bullets struck the automobile, including the hood, driver’s side windshield, rear passenger side door, trunk, and tire.

The automobile belongs to Christy, the teenagers’ mother, who says she needs it to get to work as a single mother. But it is currently unusable.

This irresponsible driving incident is only one of many in Milwaukee. Amaya is concerned that it is becoming commonplace, and she believes it will undoubtedly result in trauma. She is now concerned about seeing the same vehicle the suspect was in and suspecting it is him.

The family voiced frustration, with Amaya saying that anyone who gets so angry about being cut off shouldn’t have a license or a weapon.

Christy said it was a nightmare waking up to hear her kids were nearly taken from her. “I’m grateful- my kids, I can still hug them tonight. The violence, the gun violence, needs to end. You’re trying to take innocent kids’ lives. They’re not hoodlums, they’re not running the streets. They’re going to school at 7:30 in the morning. Enough is enough, it’s gotta stop.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Christy in repairing her car so that she and her children can use it. She claims her insurance will not pay any of the charges.

Milwaukee police said they are still looking for an unknown suspect. Anyone with information should call the Milwaukee Police Department at (414) 935-7232 or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or use the P3 Tips app to stay anonymous.
