A tragic scene unfolded near the San Diego border barrier when a man fell from the fence and lost his life. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), reported that the accident happened on March 31, just before 11:00 PM, as Border Patrol Agents investigated a sensor activation and spotted two people on the secondary fence.
Agents saw two other individuals running back toward Mexico and urged them to repair a buckled ladder left behind, but the plea went unanswered. Around the same time, the man’s female companion fell from the structure. Moments later, agents discovered the man on the ground, bleeding heavily. CBP said they avoided moving him, fearing that “any type of movement would further aggravate the man’s extensive injuries and cause additional harm.”
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded quickly, but despite medical efforts, the man showed no signs of life. Paramedics found him pulseless and unresponsive. Attempts to resuscitate him failed, and at 11:34 PM, a remote physician consultation pronounced him dead. His female companion survived, spoke with agents, and remained on scene until EMS stabilized her.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office later conducted an autopsy, ruling the cause of death as “multiple blunt force injuries due to an accident,” according to CBP. The agency confirmed that its Office of Professional Responsibility is reviewing the incident and has notified the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General.
