MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A Miami Gardens woman faces more than 140 felony charges after investigators said she submitted fraudulent petitions for the “Smart and Safe Florida” constitutional amendment on marijuana use.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said the 24-year-old, a paid petition gatherer, filed petitions under fictitious names in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
Authorities charged her with multiple counts of petition fraud and 72 counts of perjury, all third-degree felonies.
FDLE said the case began in January 2023 when Escambia County election officials flagged suspicious petitions. Santa Rosa County officials later identified additional fraudulent filings tied to her.
Investigators said Santa Rosa deputies first arrested her in January 2024, but she failed to appear in court. Officers arrested her again during a traffic stop in Coral Springs in August 2025, and she was extradited to Escambia County.
The State Attorney’s Office for Florida’s First Judicial Circuit is prosecuting, and FDLE said the investigation remains ongoing.
