Mississippi Man Sentenced to 40 Years After Highway Shooting and High-Speed Chase

DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — A Mississippi man has been sentenced to 40 years in state prison after pleading guilty to a violent 2023 highway shooting that left two people wounded.

Anjayvious Farmer, of Coldwater, pleaded guilty in June 2025 to two counts of attempted murder. On Sunday, a DeSoto County Circuit Court judge handed down two concurrent 40-year sentences, according to prosecutors.

Highway Shooting Incident

The charges stem from a September 2023 confrontation that began at a Coldwater gas station. Authorities said Farmer chased his former girlfriend and her new boyfriend onto Interstate 55, firing multiple rounds into their vehicle.

The driver was struck, causing the car to crash. Both victims survived and have since fully recovered.

Attempt to Cover Up the Crime

After the shooting, Farmer fled the scene and attempted to destroy evidence. Investigators said he used a stick and a cinder block to force his own vehicle off an embankment into a creek before fleeing the state.

He was later tracked down in Wisconsin, arrested, and extradited back to Mississippi.

Prosecutor’s Warning

District Attorney Matthew Barton praised the work of investigators and issued a warning:

“You can run, but you cannot hide from accountability in DeSoto County. If you commit acts of violence here, you will be caught, prosecuted, and sent to prison.”

The case was investigated by the Coldwater Police Department and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department, with prosecution led by Assistant District Attorney Ben Weathers.
