On Thursday, a disturbance in the 1900 block of Olive Avenue ended in a SWAT siege, with one arrest after a suspected burglary turned into a standoff.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers responded to a call regarding a possible break-in at about 2:55 p.m. According to the LBPD blotter, the situation worsened when the suspect, 40-year-old James Rey Ibarra of Long Beach, barricaded himself inside the home.
SWAT was called to the area, where they set up a perimeter and attempted to de-escalate the situation.
The suspect reportedly remained recalcitrant, refusing to obey the cops’ directions.
After negotiations failed, SWAT officers entered the home and arrested Ibarra “without incident,” according to the LBPD.
According to the LBPD blotter, Ibarra is now facing many counts, including burglary, making criminal threats, possessing prohibited paraphernalia, and obstructing justice. Following his arrest, he was placed into Long Beach City Jail, and his bail was set at $50,000.
