A Dallas man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after breaking a protective order and harassing a woman for more than a decade.
Shedrick Thornton, 50, who had two prior convictions involving the victim, was found guilty of violating a protective order on August 14, 2025. The victim initially met Thornton in 2011, when he contacted her as an old college acquaintance looking to reconnect. She gently declined, but Thornton began a 14-year habit of harassment.
During this time, Thornton pursued, tormented, and bullied his victim. He had already served prison time and received probation for stalking and breaching a protection order. Thornton began his harassment a week after being released from jail in December 2024, showing up to the victim’s condominium, confronting the doorman, and demanding to see the victim.
Thornton was found guilty after the jury deliberated for about six minutes. Judge Alfred H. Bennett handed down the maximum 20-year term for the infraction and revoked his probation, adding another 10 years. The sentences were compounded, resulting in a cumulative prison term of 30 years.
Lead ADA Max Ternosky prosecuted the case, with aid from Kathryn Suggs, investigator Michael Csaszar, and paralegal Stephanie Thompson. The Dallas Police Department handled the investigation.
