A traffic stop on Route 684 in Southeast resulted in the arrest of a Bronx woman and a Pennsylvania man on felony drug and weapon possession charges.
State Police were alerted Monday to be on the lookout for a vehicle wanted in connection with a fraud investigation initiated by the Port Jervis Police Department in Orange County.
Troop K Public Information Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli stated that a short time later, a fast car was noticed traveling southbound on the interstate, and a trooper assigned to the State Police Somers barracks began a traffic stop, assisted by personnel of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver, Victoria Negron, 30, and her passenger, Jonathan Ramirez, 42, of Reading, agreed to a consent search of the vehicle, which resulted in the finding of 21.4 grams of MDMA, 3.2 grams of cocaine, and three guns, police said.
Ramirez was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with the purpose to sell, as well as two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Negron was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a loaded pistol and two charges of criminal possession of a weapon.
Both Ramirez and Negron were arraigned in Carmel Town Court and confined to the Putnam Correctional Facility without bail pending grand jury proceedings.
The most serious charges are felonies in New York State, punishable by up to 15 years in a maximum-security prison.
