Parents of Missing Baby Emmanuel Haro Arrested for Murder in Cabazon

The parents of missing 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro have been arrested on suspicion of murder, more than a week after his mother claimed he was abducted, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD) announced Friday.

Jake and Rebecca Haro were taken into custody at their home in Cabazon, Riverside County. Authorities confirmed the arrests are directly tied to Emmanuel’s disappearance. The infant has not yet been found.

“This morning, detectives from the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail and Specialized Enforcement Division arrested Jake and Rebecca Haro at their residence in Cabazon for PC 187 – Murder,” SBCSD said in a statement on X.

Initial Abduction Claim

On August 14, Rebecca Haro reported that Emmanuel had been abducted in Yucaipa while she was changing his diaper outside a Big 5 Sporting Goods store. She told reporters she was attacked, heard someone say “hola,” saw a flash of light, and later awoke on the ground bruised—her baby gone.

Deputies launched a large-scale search with scent-tracking dogs but found no trace of Emmanuel. By August 16, investigators noted inconsistencies in Rebecca’s story and said the parents might have harmed the child.

Evidence Collection

Detectives served multiple search warrants at the Haro residence, used K9s, and on August 20 seized a car belonging to Jake Haro for forensic processing.

On Friday, the couple was formally arrested and booked for murder under California Penal Code 187, which carries a minimum sentence of 25 years to life if convicted.

Prior Child Cruelty Conviction

Court records show that in June 2023, Jake Haro and his ex-wife pleaded guilty to child cruelty charges after his then-10-week-old daughter was hospitalized in 2018 with broken bones.

Rebecca Haro has reportedly declined a polygraph test but has otherwise cooperated, according to her attorney.

Authorities emphasized that the search for baby Emmanuel is ongoing.
