An Oakland man was detained Thursday on suspicion of killing two people in Livermore last year, according to police.
On April 27, 2024, Livermore police went to a shooting call at the La Quinta Inn on Southfront Road, where they discovered two persons shot inside a room, according to officials. Lizabeth Murillo-Rodriguez of Oakland and Christopher Vera, 21, of Hayward, were recognized.
Officials stated both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Yonston Vazquez of Oakland was quickly recognized as the suspect when police discovered he knew one of the victims, according to officials. They said he was “armed and dangerous.”
Police said Thursday that they had found him after an almost 16-month search. Vazquez was apprehended in Mexico on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. and extradited to Livermore that night. Police stated he was booked into the Santa Rita Jail on two counts of homicide.
“This arrest represents the relentless pursuit of justice,” Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young stated. “From the first response to the final arrest, the professionalism and persistence of our officers, specialized units, and detectives were critical to bringing this case to resolution and ensuring accountability for the victims’ families.”
Young thanked the FBI for its support. The shooting was Livermore’s first and second homicide of 2024.
