Illegal immigrant charged after ICE San Diego operation leads to officer assault

A federal court has charged Rolando Nava Pacheco, a 19-year-old Mexican national, for an incident during a joint law enforcement operation in San Diego. According to officials, Pacheco attempted to flee a traffic stop on August 11, striking a federal agent and causing damage to government cars before being captured. He faces allegations of assaulting a federal officer and destroying government property, with potential penalties of up to 20 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

The arrest highlights the dangers that officers face while conducting immigration enforcement duties. “The arrest of this individual for assaulting our officers or agents demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting law enforcement personnel and holding offenders accountable,” stated HSI San Diego Special Agent in Charge Shawn Gibson. “We will not tolerate violence against law enforcement, and we are resolute in our pursuit of justice.”
