Sheriff: Argument sparked deadly South Sacramento shooting; suspect arrested

Detectives arrested a man in connection with a shooting that killed another man in south Sacramento late Tuesday afternoon.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 4:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire near 39th Street and Mascot Avenue.

Deputies found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital but later died, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators believe the victim and the suspect, 51-year-old Okouava Saelee, argued before Saelee allegedly retrieved a gun from his vehicle and opened fire.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Saelee in the Sacramento area on Wednesday. He is now booked into Sacramento County Jail and being held without bail.
