An accident on Highway 12 in Solano County left a 53-year-old man dead and four others hospitalized after a crash Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Officials said the man was driving a Toyota westbound when he lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic, and came to rest at a right angle across the roadway, ABC 10 reported.
The crash happened near the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 113, as confirmed by KCRA. A Nissan struck the Toyota, causing additional injuries. Authorities stated the Nissan driver and three passengers were transported to a nearby hospital. Their conditions remain unknown.
CHP noted that all parties wore seat belts, which likely prevented further fatalities. Investigators do not suspect DUI for the Nissan driver but are examining whether impairment contributed to the Toyota driver’s actions. The victim’s name has not been released pending family notification.
Emergency crews, including CHP officers and medical personnel, responded shortly after 5 p.m. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
