Former NBA star John Stockton has again claimed that hundreds of athletes died suddenly after receiving COVID-19 vaccines, despite repeated debunking by health experts.
Speaking on The Maverick Approach podcast, Stockton said he first mentioned “200 athletes dead on the field” soon after vaccination, but now believes the number was closer to 300 at the time and over 1,100 before 2023. He claimed to have names, obituaries, and supporting materials, citing Ed Dowd’s book Cause Unknown as evidence.
Stockton linked high-profile cases — including Hank Aaron’s death weeks after vaccination, and cardiac incidents involving Bronny James and Damar Hamlin — to what he called a broader pattern ignored by media. He argued such cases should prompt deeper investigation.
Medical experts say no credible scientific evidence supports Stockton’s numbers or any large-scale link between vaccines and sudden athlete deaths. Sports cardiologists and public health agencies report no such trend. The CDC notes rare myocarditis cases after mRNA vaccination, mostly in young men, but says the risk is lower than from COVID-19 itself.
Stockton, who lost his Gonzaga tickets over his views, previously joined a failed 2024 lawsuit claiming doctors’ speech against mainstream pandemic narratives was suppressed. He says he remains committed to “asking questions others are afraid to ask,” even if labeled a conspiracy theorist.
