Louisiana Man Arrested in Galveston for Alleged Assault, Threats, and Drug Possession

Police arrested Brenton Edwards, 46, of Louisiana on Friday morning after he allegedly hit his wife with a truck, threatened her with a gun, and possessed a controlled substance, according to a Galveston Police press release.

Officers responded at 10:57 a.m. to multiple calls reporting both a vehicle-pedestrian accident and a disturbance between a man and a woman in the 2800 block of 61st Street. They found Edwards’ wife inside a nearby business with multiple injuries.

The woman told officers that Edwards had threatened her with a gun and was still armed. Police searched the area and located Edwards in a vehicle near 15th Street and Avenue O. When officers tried to arrest him, a struggle broke out, and a police dog assisted in taking him into custody.

Authorities charged Edwards with assault causing bodily injury to a family member, terroristic threat against family, and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in county jail on a $20,000 bond.

Police have not released updates on the woman’s condition.
