A Miami woman faces felony and misdemeanor charges after police said she slapped a senior during an argument over a chair at the Aventura Mall’s newly opened Eataly food hall, sending him to the hospital.
According to Aventura police, the incident occurred just after 5 p.m. Sunday. An arrest report states that Lelia Trinchero, 44, of Coconut Grove, told officers she sat at what she believed was an empty table to eat and wait for her husband and son. Moments later, another woman approached and said her family had been sitting there.
Police said the disagreement escalated when Trinchero began yelling at the woman as she removed chairs from the table. When the woman took the last chair, Trinchero allegedly slapped her across the arm, sparking a struggle over the chair.
A 72-year-old man from the woman’s party stepped in to break up the fight. Authorities said Trinchero slapped him across the face, causing pain, dizziness, and ultimately a trip to the hospital.
Trinchero was arrested and charged with battery on a person 65 or older, as well as battery. On Monday, a judge found probable cause for the charges and released her on her own recognizance.
