A deadly crash in Pompano Beach last Thursday claimed the life of a bicyclist after a collision with a truck towing a boat.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. near the 2700 block of Northeast 14th Street Causeway. According to CBS12, the truck driver swerved to avoid the bicyclist, causing the boat trailer to detach and strike parked vehicles.
Authorities identified the victim as Anastazia Hitz, who was reportedly crossing the street outside of a crosswalk, Boca Post reported. The driver, Micheal Creque, attempted to avoid her by steering right, but the maneuver caused the boat trailer to break loose.
The runaway trailer slammed into a BMW 640i and a Volkswagen Tiguan parked at a nearby business. No other injuries were reported.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue rushed Hitz to Broward Health North, where she was later pronounced dead.
BSO investigators said speed, impairment, and mechanical failure do not appear to be factors in the crash. Creque has not been found at fault in the ongoing investigation.
