HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A Houston daycare owner is facing multiple felony charges after police say she left five children locked inside a hot vehicle while she went grocery shopping.
Domonique Wilson, owner of My Lil Angels daycare, is charged with five counts of child endangerment. Court records show she operates the daycare from her apartment complex on Stone Street.
Police said the incident happened around noon on Friday in the parking lot of a Kroger along Telephone Road. Investigators allege Wilson took her two biological children inside the store but left five of her clients’ children inside a parked car in 91-degree heat.
Witnesses told authorities the children — reportedly aged between toddlers and early elementary school — were left unattended for roughly 40 minutes. One witness said they found the children red-faced, crying, and visibly distressed before alerting police.
“There is obviously no excuse. It’s super hot in Houston. I wouldn’t even leave my dog in the car, so I don’t know what she was thinking,” said neighbor Nyleh Peters.
Officials said the children were checked and are now in stable condition. Wilson’s bond has been set at $10,000 for each charge, with her next court appearance scheduled for October 15.
According to the Texas Health and Human Services website, Wilson is a licensed daycare provider. Her last inspection, conducted in April, showed no prior compliance violations.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services confirmed they have opened an investigation into the incident. “DFPS is investigating whether or not abuse or neglect occurred in this case. Findings from our investigation will be turned over to the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), the state agency that licenses and regulates daycares in Texas,” a spokesperson said.
