A troubling mystery is unfolding in west Tennessee after a baby was found abandoned on a stranger’s front lawn just hours before authorities discovered four people dead, including a child.

The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the two incidents are being investigated, though they have not explicitly stated how they are connected. The baby, found on Monday afternoon in a car seat dropped off by a dark-colored minivan, was examined by medical personnel and is reported to be safe.

Later that evening, investigators identified the child and sought to speak with Cortney Rose, Matthew Wilson, and Adrianna Williams. By Wednesday, local news outlets reported that Rose, Wilson, Williams, and an unidentified juvenile were all found dead at a separate crime scene in Lake County.

On Tuesday, the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office announced that it was working alongside the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at the scene of the deaths, with support from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the FBI.

No cause of death has been released, and the names of the victims have not been officially confirmed pending notification of next of kin.

“This is a deeply saddening day for our community,” said Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box in a statement. “We are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.”

Sheriff Box also thanked Lake County Sheriff Bryan Avery and his team for their quick response and cooperation in the developing investigation.

The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office says updates will be released as more information becomes available.
