Victorville man, 19, killed in Highway 395 crash

Officials have identified the 19-year-old Victorville man who died in a fiery crash along Highway 395 near Adelanto over the weekend as Xavier Macias.

The crash occurred around 12:10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, on the southbound side of the highway, north of Torosa Road, in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County, according to the California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County coroner’s office. Macias was pronounced dead at the scene.

Few details about the circumstances of the collision have been released. Initial reports suggested the crash involved two vehicles, including a Land Rover SUV that caught fire after the impact. Witnesses said two people were airlifted from the scene by helicopter. CHP has not released information regarding the cause of the crash as of Tuesday.

Macias’ aunt, Candice Macias, shared memories of her nephew in a statement alongside an online fundraiser to help with burial costs.

“He was only 19 years old & had so much life ahead of him,” she wrote. “Anyone who knew him would know he was always so happy, he always had a smile on his face. Just being in his presence you would always feel his love.”

She asked the community to keep Xavier’s parents and siblings in their prayers. “Xavier, you will forever be loved. We are all going to miss you so much. You will never be forgotten.”
