At Least One Dead in Highway 99 Incident Near White Lane

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A tragic incident on northbound Highway 99 near White Lane left at least one person dead Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. when a person reportedly began jumping in front of vehicles just north of White Lane. The circumstances leading to the death remain under investigation.

CHP reports that at least one lane remains open, but drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible. The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased at a later time.

It is currently unknown when the highway will fully reopen. Emergency responders and law enforcement are on the scene managing traffic and the ongoing investigation.
