A harrowing video captures an Australian couple bravely trying to stop one of the Bondi Beach terrorists — before both were shot and left to die in each other’s arms, just weeks before their 35th wedding anniversary.
Boris Gurman, 69, and his 61-year-old wife, Sofia, attempted to stop one of the gunmen after spotting a rifle-carrying terrorist emerging from a car draped with a homemade ISIS flag, moments before the deadly rampage began on Sunday, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The dramatic dashcam footage shows Boris fearlessly tackling the terrorist, Sajid Akram, in the street and wrestling the gun away as Sofia rushes in to help.
Footage shows a man falling onto the road while attempting to disarm one of the Bondi Beach terrorists.
Boris is later seen pointing the rifle at the mass killer in a desperate effort to force him to retreat — but the terrorist then grabs another rifle.
Police revealed that the Bondi Beach terrorists had homemade bombs and ISIS flags inside their car.
The couple, who lived in Bondi and had been married for 34 years, were ultimately executed at close range.
Video also shows the heroic couple embracing each other after being fatally shot.
A separate drone video captured the heartbreaking moment the couple clutched each other at the spot where they died.
The heroic man and couple who died while trying to stop the Bondi Beach terrorists were praised for their courage.
Their family said they were “aware of footage showing Boris, with Sofia by his side, courageously attempting to disarm an attacker in an effort to protect others.”
“While nothing can lessen the pain of losing Boris and Sofia, we feel an overwhelming sense of pride in their bravery and selflessness,” the family said in a statement.
“This encapsulates who Boris and Sofia were — people who instinctively and selflessly tried to help others.”
The heroic couple was identified as Boris and Sofia Gurman.
The pair were the first of the 15 victims gunned down by Akram and his son, Naveed, in what became Australia’s deadliest mass shooting in nearly 30 years.
After their courageous attempt to stop the attack, two others were also caught on video trying to take down the gunmen as the brutal rampage unfolded.
In an undated photo, Sofia and Boris Gurman are seen together.
Ahmed al Ahmed, a Muslim father of two, charged one of the gunmen from behind and managed to disarm him, surviving despite being shot multiple times.
Another man, identified as Reuven Morrison, 62, managed to throw a brick at one of the terrorists before he was also shot dead.
An ISIS flag was seen on a vehicle during the Bondi Beach shooting.
“He jumped in the moment the shooting started. He managed to throw bricks,” said Morrison’s daughter, Sheina Gutnick.
“If there is one way for him to leave this Earth, it would be fighting a terrorist.”
