A Davenport woman is in the Scott County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond after police say she took an SUV from a Walmart in Davenport.
According to the criminal complaint, a uniformed Davenport Police officer was working off duty at Walmart on W. Kimberly Road around 5:30 p.m. on December 8 when a motor vehicle theft was reported. The defendant, Peggy Chandler, 55, was caught on camera leaving Walmart at 5:25 p.m. and heading toward the victim’s SUV. Chandler entered the vehicle without authorization and drove it out of the store.
The victim was able to locate down his car, which was parked in the 2200 block of Waveland Drive in Bettendorf. Officers rushed to the scene and discovered the SUV and Chandler. She apparently admitted to having the automobile. The victim and Chandler do not know each other, and the victim stated that he did not authorize anyone to drive or remove his vehicle. The car was worth around $35,000.
Chandler was arrested and charged with first-degree stealing. She is being held in the Scott County Jail on a secured $10,000 bond and is awaiting her first court appearance.
