Double Homicide Investigation Underway After Highway Shooting Near Nevada Border

Authorities have launched a double homicide investigation after a highway shooting on Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol Quincy Division.

Around 8:50 a.m., CHP said a highway violence incident occurred on southbound US-395 near the Long Valley Agricultural Inspection Station, roughly two miles from the Nevada state line.

CHP reported that after the two vehicles pulled onto the right shoulder, a confrontation allegedly began. At the same time, a CHP officer from the Portola Resident Post was patrolling nearby.

As the officer arrived, CHP said a shooting erupted between the involved parties. The officer detained everyone at the scene and began providing medical aid to the injured.

Despite lifesaving efforts, CHP said two individuals died from their injuries at the scene.

Multiple agencies responded to support scene security, manage the highway closure, and assist with the ongoing investigation. All involved parties, including the suspected shooters, have been identified.

CHP said there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Southbound US-395 remained closed for an extended period while investigators processed the scene, and traffic was detoured onto Red Rock Road.

The CHP is asking additional witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Quincy CHP Office at 530-283-1100.

“The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security,” the agency said.
