70-Year-Old Alabama Man Jailed For Beating 95-Year-Old Mom While On Probation

An Alabama man is back in jail after authorities said he assaulted his 95-year-old mother, violating the probation he was serving for a previous abuse case.

The investigation began early Sunday morning, November 23, in Phenix City.

Around 8:00 a.m., a driver flagged down a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy patrolling the 9000 block of Lee Road 240. The motorist said he needed help regarding his brother, who had allegedly attacked their mother.

Inside the vehicle, deputies found the 95-year-old victim. She had visible injuries, including two black eyes and bandages covering wounds on her arms and legs.

When asked what happened, the woman identified her other son as the attacker. She reportedly told investigators that “this was not the first time” he had struck her. Authorities determined the assault occurred at her home on Lee Road 498.

On Tuesday, November 25, investigators arrested 70-year-old John Earl Black. He faces charges of second-degree assault and elderly abuse.

Court records show a history of violence against the same victim. Black was previously arrested for abusing his mother in April 2022. He pleaded guilty in January 2025 and was sentenced to two years of probation.

Black is booked into the Lee County Detention Center and remains in custody on a $30,000 bond.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
