5 Detained At Eddy Street Commons Following Reports Of Fights Breaking Out

According to court documents from St. Joseph County, at least five men were arrested on September 20 following reports of a large crowd with fights breaking out.

According to the South Bend Police Department, officers arrived at the location and were notified that a shooting had occurred the previous week.

While on the site, officers observed a group of men, later identified as Jose Miguel Tirado (19), Larry Ramone Mitchell Jr. (20), and Sabian Martin (19), walking into a restaurant.

Officers claim the men looked to be concealing firearms. According to police, they were all searching for lumps under their garments and holding their pants up with their hands, as if something heavy was in the waistbands.

The males entered a property that had publicly posted prohibitions against carrying guns.

According to authorities, the individuals initially got in line at the eatery before returning their attention to the officers.

The three men sensed they were being monitored and slipped out a back exit into an alleyway. Officers then discovered them in an alleyway.

One cop told them to stop and began searching Martin for weapons. Martin allegedly fought the officer.

While authorities dealt with Martin, Mitchell and Tirado escaped. Backup officers apprehended the two as they left the Eddy Street Commons area.

Martin is charged with Resisting Law Enforcement—Defendant Causes Bodily Injury, a Level 6 Felony, while Tirado and Mitchell each face Resisting Law Enforcement, a Misdemeanor.

During the same day, officers saw Malik Jaylen Williams, who was forbidden from possessing a firearm and had previously been convicted of Dangerous Possession of a Firearm, a Level 5 Felony.

Williams was also a potential suspect in a recent shooting.

Despite the fact that the temperature was around 80 degrees, police noticed Williams wearing heavy, thick clothing. Authorities believe this is consistent with a person attempting to conceal a handgun.

Officers approached and ordered him to halt. Williams then walked away, increasing his pace as officers approached.

Williams kept his hands near his belt, which raised suspicions that he was armed.

Williams was then brought to the ground and handcuffed. While officers walked Williams to a police transport van, he kept pulling away and dragging his feet.

After a brief fight, they got him into the van and drove him to St. Joseph County Jail.

Williams has been charged with a misdemeanor: resisting law enforcement.

While patrolling Eddy Street Commons, police were notified of a man armed with a rifle. An officer heard shouts and saw the throng disperse.

People yelled “gun,” and a man, subsequently identified as 19-year-old Triston Le’Anthony McReynolds, walked away clutching his waistline.

An officer approached McReynolds, who ran away. When police apprehended him, he claimed he had nothing to do with what had occurred. He then continued to flee.

Authorities told him to stop, but he proceeded. Officers detained him and found a weapon in his waistband.

McReynolds’ criminal history includes a previous conviction for intimidation, a Level 6 felony.

McReynolds has been charged with resisting law enforcement, a misdemeanor, and unlawful carrying of a handgun, a Level 5 felony.
