Three people have been arrested in Frankfort following a Wednesday morning incident involving a stolen car from Oneonta.
On Wednesday, September 24, Frankfort police got a complaint about a red Ford Bronco driving recklessly through the village. A caller reported that individuals wearing masks and gloves were occupying the Bronco. They were allegedly harassing passersby in the neighborhood, according to reports. A search of the region failed to locate the car.
Shortly after the canvass was cancelled, an officer was performing a traffic stop in the village when they noticed the vehicle in issue was driving by them at a high speed. When the officer called in the license plate number, it was discovered that the car had been stolen from the City of Oneonta earlier that day.
Officers ultimately identified the car, which was racing eastward down Main Street. Officers say the driver almost lost control after making a risky right turn onto North Frankfort Street. Following a brief chase, the automobile collided with a utility pole at the intersection of North Frankfort Street and East Orchard Street. As cops approached the accident scene, three of the occupants exited the vehicle, with two fleeing on foot. The 17-year-old driver, whose name has been withheld due to his age, was arrested without additional incident.
Officers from New York State and Ilion Police were able to identify and capture the other two individuals; one of them was later identified as 19-year-old Luis Feliciano-Torres. They were eventually taken into jail.
The identity of the other 15-year-old suspect was also kept hidden owing to his age.
Feliciano-Torres was arraigned in Herkimer County Court and then released on his own recognizance. He was eventually charged with:
- Obstructing governmental administration, a Class A Misdemeanor, and
- third-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, a Class D Felony.
The 17-year-old male driver was also arraigned in Herkimer County Court and released with a condition to appear at the Herkimer County Probation Department at a later date. He is charged with:
- third-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, a Class D felony,
- Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A Misdemeanor, and
- several vehicle and traffic law violations.
The 15-year-old male was released to a parent with an appearance ticket for the Herkimer County Probation Department at a later date. He is charged with:
- third-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, a Class D felony, and
- Obstructing governmental administration, a Class A Misdemeanor.
