A homeless woman is charged with two felonies after Miami-Dade deputies said she assaulted and robbed an 89-year-old disabled man on Wednesday.
According to an arrest report, Ruth Weaday Logan, 27, approached the senior while he was walking to a nearby store on Northwest 47th Street and 27th Avenue in the unincorporated Brownsville area.
Logan, according to authorities, “pushed him out of the wheelchair and down to the ground” until he “began making demands for the victim’s property and hitting him throughout (his) body.”
According to deputies, Logan “went through the victim’s pockets and wheelchair” and stole his wallet.
According to the complaint, several witnesses called the sheriff’s office and pursued Logan, who fled to the U-Gas station at 4700 NW 27th Avenue.
Deputies claimed a witness was able to recover the man’s wallet.
When deputies arrived, they discovered Logan sitting at the petrol station with “miscellaneous baggies of narcotics on her lap” and the man’s ID.
Logan was taken to jail on allegations of strong-armed robbery and violence against someone over the age of 65.
On Thursday, she was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $15,000 bond.
