A coordinated law enforcement operation organized by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of 23 people who were unlawfully present in the United States.

The operation targeted people with prior criminal convictions, active warrants, and immigration offenses, and it was carried out in partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the county’s 287(g) program. It took place over a few days in several sites throughout Butler County.

“Our goal is to keep Butler County safe,” said Sheriff Richard Jones. “The 287(g) partnership allows our deputies to work hand-in-hand with ICE to remove individuals who have broken our laws or pose a risk to our community.”

The 287(g) program, authorized by Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, allows designated local law enforcement officers to carry out immigration enforcement responsibilities under ICE supervision. Butler County is one of numerous jurisdictions nationally participating in the program.
