Two men were detained Friday night for attempting to obstruct a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) worker from painting over a roadway mural.
Around 8:00 p.m., FDOT crews came on 9th Avenue South, just west of 22nd Street South, to begin the process of covering a mural painted on the highway.
Shortly after, around 8:15 p.m., Andrew Oliver, 45, and Benedict Atherton-Zeman, 59, walked past police and sat in the street on top of the mural.
The men attempted to block the FDOT machinery and prevent the crew from continuing their work. Officers on the scene repeatedly warned the males to move, but they refused to comply.
Oliver and Atherton-Zeman were eventually apprehended. Both males were charged with “Pedestrian Obstructing or Hindering Traffic” and “Obstruction.”
