15-year-old charged with killing brother, dumping body near Dania Beach canal

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his brother, whose body was discovered near a Dania Beach canal, authorities said.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) reported deputies responded to a 911 call shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday about a body floating in the canal near Ocean Waterway Boulevard and Old Griffin Road.

“He was later identified as 23-year-old Kevin Dominique. Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene Units also responded to the scene,” said BSO spokesperson Carey Codd. “Through their investigation, they learned that Mr. Dominique had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.”

Detectives said it took only hours to identify a suspect: Dominique’s 15-year-old brother, Demetre Fleurimond.

“Late on Tuesday night, he did admit to committing this crime,” Codd said.

Investigators determined Fleurimond shot his brother inside the family’s Southwest Sixth Avenue home when Dominique returned from work. He then drove the body to the canal, dumped it, abandoned the car at a nearby library, and attempted to clean the crime scene, according to BSO.

The brothers lived in the home with their mother, detectives said.

Fleurimond was taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing.

On Wednesday afternoon, 7News cameras captured an unmarked BSO vehicle outside the residence.

The motive remains unclear, and Fleurimond is expected to appear in court Thursday.
