Authorities have identified the 15-year-old boy killed in an east Bakersfield shooting as Jacob Jesus Hernandez of Bakersfield, the Kern County Coroner’s Office confirmed Tuesday.
The Bakersfield Police Department said officers responded to reports of gunfire near Highland Knolls Drive and Morning Drive at about 11:42 p.m. on September 26.
When officers arrived, they found two teenage boys suffering from gunshot wounds in the 4200 block of Morning Drive. Paramedics transported both victims to a hospital, where Hernandez died from his injuries.
The second victim, a 16-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries, police said.
Detectives have taken over the case and are continuing the homicide investigation.
