Police arrested 15 people Friday during an anti-ICE protest outside 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan, home to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing center.
Demonstrators blocked the street holding a “Free Them All” banner and signs reading “Rise Up Against Cruelty.” Organizers accuse ICE of keeping immigrants in inhumane conditions inside the facility.
DHS pushed back, saying the building is not a detention center but a short-term processing site where people receive food, medical care, and contact with lawyers and family before being moved to detention facilities.
The protest is part of a months-long wave of rallies that intensified in July after the New York Immigration Coalition released video from inside the 10th floor. The footage shows men lying on the floor with foil blankets, no furniture, and a toilet partially covered with foil. The recording’s date remains unknown, and DHS has called the allegations “categorically false.”
