Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 cash reward for information leading to charges in the death of five-year-old Reign Ware, who was shot last year while sitting in a parked car on the Near West Side.
Reign was leaving a small family party with her father about 2:56 a.m. on May 26, 2024, when more than 60 shots were fired from four different firearms on the 200 block of South Campbell Avenue, according to relatives and a Chicago police report.
Reign was injured in the abdomen while sitting inside a car with her father. A 24-year-old man nearby sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Her mother informed news outlets that the family had been celebrating a relative’s birthday, and the girl had fallen asleep in the back seat as her father stopped to speak with people outside.
Investigators stated a dark Jeep Cherokee approached and someone inside fired fire.
Reign was scheduled to start kindergarten last September. Her mother described her as brilliant, athletic, and continuously dancing, earning her the moniker “TikTok queen” among relatives.
