Wildcats Drop Season Opener To Smith Co At Home

The Monterey Wildcats dropped their season opener at home, to Smith County 6 to 1 Wednesday night in Monterey.

The game was scoreless after the first inning of play. However, Smith County scored the games first run in the top of the second inning. Neither team saw a run cross in the third inning. Smith County extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning as they tacked on three runs.

The fifth inning went scoreless again but Smith County added two run in the top of the sixth. Monterey scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Monterey’s Riley Franz recorded four strikeouts for the the Wildcats and Tyler Anderson added three strikeouts as well. Franz also threw 10 first strike pitches. Garrett Hastings threw five first dtrike pitches of his own.

Monterey will play again Thursday night in Spencer, against Van Buren County.
