White Co Boys, Stone Memorial Girls Picked To Win District 6AAA

It was media day for District 6AAA, and in both the media and coaches’ polls, the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers and White County Warriors were picked to win the District.

On the girls side, the Lady Panthers were followed by White County in second and Cookeville in third. The media poll picked Rhea County to finish ahead of Warren County, while the coaches picked vice versa.

Stone Memorial is coming off of a 30-4 2019-20 campaign that saw them make it to the Class AAA State Semifinals before the season was canned due to Covid-19. They bring back four of their starters, though they will have a lot of production to replace with Emma Capps’ graduation.

The White County Warriorettes won the District Tournament last season after they stunned Stone Memorial 77-72 in the Semifinals. They bring back MTSU commit Gracie Dodgen and fellow Senior Mia Murray, along with Sophomore Nia Powers. They will have to replace their starting backcourt and center positions with Kendreah Reeves, Kanden Reeves and Julia Curtis all graduating.

For the boys, the biggest difference came down to who was picked to finished second. While the media picked Stone Memorial to finish in second, coaches tabbed the Warren County Pioneers to finish right behind White County.

The Warriors have Mississippi commit Grant Slatten returning for his senior season, along with fellow senior Kade Clark, but they will have to get some production to replace the losses of Masyn Winningham and Kegan Dodson. The Warriors went 23-8 last season, including a 7-1 mark in District play.

Warren County is the current defending District Champion, and while they lose La’Cedric Cox and Irving Espinosa, they also bring back C.J. Taylor, Dee Spates and Aiden Cummings in their starting lineup, and Donte Elam and Kaden Rutledge on the bench. They’ll be a tough out on any given night, especially since they return a majority of a 20-12 squad from a year ago.

Cookeville and Rhea County were picked fourth and fifth, respectively, in both polls.
