Warriorettes Hope To Continue Roll Against Rhea Co

The White County Warriorettes are on a two-game winning streak that was recently turned into a streak thanks to a 61-57 win over Cookeville on Feb. 4.

Their next contest will take place tonight when they travel to Rhea County for a crucial district matchup. White County currently sits at 3-3 in district play, a half-game behind Rhea for the second-place spot in the league. A win means sole possession of second-place heading into their regular season finale against district-leading Stone Memorial.

The last time these two teams played, it was neck-and-neck in the first half and White County led 26-25 at halftime. The third quarter proved to be the big difference, as Rhea out-scored the Warriorettes by a 15-4 count to take control of the game. This led to them winning by a final score of 56-42 in Sparta.

The Warriorette offense struggled in this one, and they were led by Gracie Dodgen’s 13 points. Julia Curtis added eight points and 15 rebounds, a game that saw her begin a streak of outstanding rebounding games, but no other Warriorette posted more than nine points.

The key in this game lies with three players. First, Morgan Quick will need to hit shots off the bench. Quick led all scorers with 15 points in their Jan. 31 win over Warren County, and if she shoots the ball well, White County will be in good shape.

The next player is senior point guard Kendreah Reeves. She will be looking to extend her streak of good play that saw her put up 11 points in the win over Cookeville. She’s also been a solid defender and has had nights where she simply couldn’t miss from three. They will need every bit of her offense in this game.

Finally, sophomore Alaina Stiles has been a key cog on offense all year and there’s no reason that should change now. She only scored two points in these teams’ last meeting, but she’s grown more comfortable in her starting role since taking over for an injured Mia Murray. She scored 10 points in the win over Cookeville, and should be a big factor in this game.

The two teams tip-off at 5 P.M. CST.
