Volleyball: Lady Cavs Win District Tournament

The Cookeville Lady Cavaliers Volleyball team ended their run in the District Tournament on Tuesday by defeating Rhea County in the championship game by a final score of 3-0.

The opening set provided a back-and-forth contest, as Rhea County took a late lead at 20-19. It didn’t phase the Lady Cavs, however, and they used a late push to take the first set by a count of 25-20.

That would be the closest Rhea Co. would get to winning, as Cookeville took the second set 25-18. In the third set, the senior leadership for the Lady Cavs took over and closed out the match by a final score of 25-14.

Seniors Erica South, Jurnee Wilson and Bailey Turnbow were named to the All-Tournament Team, and junior Mattie Arnett was named the Tournament MVP after posting 14 kills in the championship match.
