Upperman Looks to Clinch Region 4-4A Crown Friday Night in Smithville

Region Championships are nothing new for the Upperman Bees. The Baxter school won the last three Region 4-3A Championships, and claimed five total in the past decade.

With reclassification prior to this season, Upperman was bumped up to Class 4A, but so far, the story has remained the same. The Bees are 3-0 in Region 4-4A, having won 20 consecutive games against Region opposition, dating back to the 2017 season.

This Friday night, Upperman (6-1) has the opportunity to lock up their fourth consecutive Region Championship, but must travel to Smithville and beat a red-hot DeKalb County Tigers squad in order to do so. After a slow start to their season, the Tigers (5-2) have surged with four consecutive wins, including a 28-0 shutout at Warren County, last Friday night. Upperman and DeKalb County are no strangers on the gridiron; the teams have met regularly since the mid-1990’s, with the Bees having won the last four meetings.

Coach Adam Caine spoke with UC Sports Nation about what’s at stake this Friday night, and what he expects from DeKalb County.
