Two Warriorettes Advance To State In Cross Country

White County runners Evan Welch and Katie Anderson both finished in the top 10 in the Region Three state qualifying meet on Tuesday in Cookeville.

Evan Welch finished second overall with a time of 20:09.

“Finishing second (at region) is a dream come true,” Welch said. “My goals for state are to finish at least in the top 20. There is an extra race I can run called the Championship Race held in Dickson.”

Katie Anderson finished ninth with a time of 23:05.

“The race went really well better than I expected,” Anderson said. “I’ve had a goal for the last two and a half years to make it to state. When i was a freshman i finished 11th. I’ve strived to make it to the top 10 and I did it.”

Both runners will compete at the State Championship in early November at Steeplechase.

“That’s always been the goal is to make it to state,” White County head coach Mark Volyles said. “This year it’s great to have two girls make it. So I am real excited.”
