Two Top-5 Finishes Lead Cavs Wrestling At State

The Cookeville Cavaliers wrapped up the wrestling season on Friday, as two of their wrestlers finished in the top-5 of their respective classes.

Samuel Harness placed fourth overall in the AAA 285 class, and he got his day started with consecutive wins over Wilson Central’s Jesse Richardson and Morristown-Hamblen West’s Sonny Watson. Harness fell to Walker Valley’s Jaden Langford, but followed it with another win over Richardson to clinch a spot in the Third-Place match. There, he fell to Bradley Central’s Austin McClure to finish the day in fourth place.

Trenton Houston finished fifth overall in the AAA 106 class. He defeated Science Hill’s Stiles Miller before falling to Bradley Central’s Bryson Terrell. Houston then earned wins over Hardin Valley Academy’s Bradley Curns and Heritage’s James Grimes before falling to Houston’s Colby Baltz. Houston finished his day with a win over Brentwood’s Zach Ordonez in the fifth-place match.

James Strong lost his first match of the day to Hendersonville’s Justin Mumaw, but he followed it up with wins over Maryville’s Mason Johnson and Arlington’s Jacob Roaten. Strong lost his last match of the day to Knoxville Halls’ Jonathan Kiser.

Haden Williams also fell short in his first match against Page’s Will Parcel. He defeated Maryville’s Peyton Cooper, but Williams’ day came to an end in a loss to Dobyns Bennett’s Clint Morissette.

Gabe Hopkins fell in both of his matches, as he went up against Walker Valley’s Heath Tanksley and David Crockett’s Gabe Ferrell.
