Tuesday Night Around UC Sports Nation: Grant Strong Eclipses 2,000 Points

Grant Strong knew when the 2021-22 basketball season started, he would reach the 2,000-point mark for his high school basketball career, barring injuries or any other setbacks. Tuesday night, the Clay County star senior and Tennessee Tech commit reached the milestone with 31 points in the Bulldogs’ 74-47 rout of Red Boiling Springs. The reigning Class 1A Mr. Basketball has helped the defending State Champions to a 6-1 start to the season.

Meanwhile, the Livingston Academy Wildcats returned to the court after a 10-day break, and beat Macon County, 60-49, in the District 7-3A opener for the Wildcats (4-4). Isaac Strong poured in 23 points in the win.

Adam Simmons scored 20 and John Allen added another 17, as Van Buren County (6-4) won at Clarkrange, 77-61. Evan Cantrell led Clarkrange (2-10) with 19 points, while Connor LaRue added 15.

Monterey (5-7) came up short at Cannon County, 61-57, as Gus Davenport exploded for 39 points for the Lions.

In girls’ action, Nia Powers poured in 19 points, while Alaina Stiles added 14 in White County’s 83-29 domination of DeKalb County. The Warriorettes (8-1) are tied at the top of the District 7-3A standings with Cumberland County (4-4), who topped Stone Memorial (4-5), 60-46, in their inter-county rivalry match-up.

Clay County (6-1) earned their first district win, 45-40 over Red Boiling Springs (6-2), as Briley Burchett tallied 20 points.

Adaline Clouse scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Monterey (3-9) past Cannon County, 63-54. The victory snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Lady Wildcats.
